Gender-specific gene response to burn

Does female and male patients respond differently to severe burn? We are interested in identifying genes that have gender-specific response, which might be used to explain some gender difference in clinical outcomes. We designed this project to study the interaction of burn factor and gender factor.

We used 159 patients and healthy controls, each with two arrays. One array from early stage (0-9days) and the other from middle stage (10-49 days). The head count of patients is shown in the table.

Type Female Male Grand Total
Burn 29 93 122
Control 20 17 37
Grand Total 49 110 159
